Consensus is never or rarely a finding of truth. The definition of consensus itself precludes that:

Synonyms of consensus:

1 a: general agreement : UNANIMITY

1 b: the judgment arrived at by most of those concerned

2: group solidarity in sentiment and belief

A consensus is definitionally an opinion. Of a group. Expressing solidarity in their beliefs. Belief and truth are not synonymous. Often exclusionary of one another.
