Hi everyone, In this conversation, AJ Kay discusses her early experiences with writing about COVID-19 and the backlash she faced for challenging the mainstream narrative. She shares how her essay on Medium, titled 'The Curve is Already Flat,' was censored and demonetized, leading to the formation of the Rational Ground group. AJ also talks about the impact of school closures on her children, particularly her daughter with autism and her other daughter with special needs. She highlights the loss of services and support that these children relied on and the detrimental effects of isolation and disrupted routines. The conversation highlights the importance of early intervention and support for children with special needs. They express concern for children diagnosed in 2020 who did not receive in-person help for three years, emphasizing the critical period of neuroplasticity in early childhood.
Just hearing the title of your article about “flattened curve” triggered the trauma of the early 2020 nightmare. My kids are grown and I feel guilty but as I watched the world falling apart I kept repeating to myself “thank god my kids aren’t young, kids will be forever damaged from what was being done to them”. Little did I know how bad it would get. I couldn’t even let myself think about it without anxiety. I live in az also. I’m so sorry for you and all families who are going through this.
Prior to Covid, people were free to express opinions, however, since Covid freedom of speech has been attacked as "dangerous". I thank God for people like AJ and Jay. People who voiced their perspectives about the feardemic and thus reinforced my suspicion that something was amiss. Sadly, and tragically though, people were unfairly vilified and censored for simply exercising their right to speak. We need to continue to speak out and stand up against this type of oppression or we will lose our democracy and will end up with a totalitarian governance, which will eventually strip us from all our God-given rights.
