FWIW, I analyzed the video and it LOOKS like the truth might be even more tragic -- it looks like the officer who disarmed the suspect accidentally discharged the weapon as he was turning to leave.
From a legal (criminal) standpoint, I think it will be EXTREMLY difficult to charge the officers, because they heard "GUN" followed immediately by a gunshot. I think at that time, a reasonable officer would assume the guy on the ground was firing.
A civil case is another matter, though. I could see a jury giving this guy's family millions.
Fair, balanced, fact-driven analyses like this one are desperately needed especially when a tragic loss of life occurs like this (in similar circumstances for the second time in less than 3 weeks). Thank you for providing an analysis like this even though it won't be popular with the masses who mindlessly support the incompetence, corruption, cruelty, and murder of the #47 administration. Most people who recognize that things are catastrophically wrong are not "Woke Dems", but rather just simply decent people who are willing to think for themselves.
Please give some examples of who exactly is defending "violent illegal aliens"? From what I've seen, about 80-90% support deporting "violent illegal aliens" but less than 50% support the unnecessary and counterproductive expenses and cruelty of "mass deportation operations targeting ALL illegal immigrants" including productive members of society who have committed no crimes in the U.S. And a clear majority disapprove of how #47 is handling immigration enforcement, quite a bit like the disapproval for #46. What does that tell you?
Very reasonable analysis. It was also my initial impression that wtf…6 trained officers can’t subdue one man??. Their training is most definitely in question. This is tragic and heartbreaking.
Planned chaos, creating scrums all over the city, hoping for a clear cut even if accidental response that can instigate more chaos. Thanks for contributing to the narrative. May as well get out and join the chaos with a whistle. Jeez!
Big picture is that it's a propaganda war (again). These events attract troublemakers like pigeons. There are always well-meaning people, evil meaning people, and chaos at these events. Law enforcement officers are not perfect, either. The mayor and the governor are just fine with having this distraction from their sickening historical grift. The taxpayers getting ripped off by some of the illegals is almost forgotten, which may be the point, because if the governor and the mayor cared about people, they would be responsible and calm the situation down and tell the public to be patient until the facts in this particular situation are out. You never hear about how people who actually live there or who own businesses feel about things years after these events. Most people directly affected who can do so leave a disaster area. What a travesty the whole thing is (again). This was as inevitable as sunrises and sunsets, and I blame LOCAL and state government because they are the ones in charge ultimately. They escalate everything. Why?
Many of us have legal carry permits but are not so stupid, reckless and needlessly confrontational as to bring them to the chaos of a confrontation with federal law enforcement.
If I was carrying I wouldn't be interfering in a police operation. A chain of events often begins with a decision based on poor judgement or misinterpretation of an event. I see that happen way too often with pilots. In this case he transitioned from bystander to participant and that was a poor decision which triggered the chain.
So then who's standing in the way when the majority of the American population wants to bring gun deaths DOWN (to levels in other Western countries or at least to the levels seen in the "Libby" states, which are much lower OVERALL if you don't cherry-pick or manipulate data) rather than coddle the NRA and gun manufacturers?
Just pointing out facts, it's unfathomable how anyone can think the >40% higher gun homicide rates in red states represent "keeping us safe" or "American greatness" or anything to be proud of in the least. Of course that's not relevant in this case, but it's an important broader point.
Only a handful of fringe Ds want to defund the po-lice. Right. Your entire party is fringe. Plus we know that liars can figure. The murder rate in inner city minority areas is clearly a problem. Why do you deny that?
Great, reasonable take on this! All of this in my opinion, appears to have been pure escalation since this travesty started in MN. It appears these apparent, lightly trained, masked government soldiers are being used to escalate the divide in this nation. MN is 26th or about for illegals. TX,CA and FL have more? But the same tactics being deployed in MN are not being executed in those states? We need to ask ourselves why first.
This looks ugly all around. He is obviously a 2A guy but most likely should have left his gun at home in order to DE-ESCALATE, if a situation as he got in, presented itself. It appears from the videos available that he was exercising his 1st A rights to video masked, government soldiers without ID, in our streets. From there it appears the government escalated and chaos from that f up ensued.
I believe that MN was chosen by design. Based on the chaos of George Floyd. Our benevolent government knew, they could bait the "left" right into their trap. The left did their part in this by taking it too far in instances. By truly impeding and getting too close to hopefully, lawful operations. Both sides are using extreme examples and narrative propaganda to bring us to today.. I mean DHS has this guy shooting wildly with their propaganda! Video evidence clearly shows us their narrative is complete horseshit! US citizens are being killed in the streets for exercising their constitutional rights and what appears to be protecting women; during a chaotic encounter from masked government soldiers, who appear to be assaulting these US women. Mistakes were made all around but having masked government soldiers appear to assault people exercising their rights, isn't a left/ right thing, it's just simply a wrong thing. Both sides need to cool off but it doesn't look like the executive wants that to occur. It appears this chaos is being utilized to usher in the AI wet dream that would never have happened with a D administration.. However, we now have the "rights" benevolent billionaire, who has done his job perfectly! He's hypnotised his side to be afraid of the others,so this shit goes on...Scary times here folks...What I thought couldn't happen in my lifetime is happening at an exponential pace..God bless those who are awake to all this malfeasance and erasure of our rights. Keep up the fight while attempting to wake the sheep..
“It appears this chaos is being utilized to usher in the AI wet dream that would never happen with a D administration.” We’re in this mess because of a derelict D admin letting millions pour across our borders. More of our innocents have been killed by those illegals than by the ICE agents (not justifying AT ALL but just sayin’)
Context for that sentence. My belief is that none of this could have happened with Kamala. Imagine all the "right" wing falling in line behind a D administration to have masked government soldiers on our streets, kicking down doors with "administrative"warrants, shooting 1st A and 2nd A citizens. Would the right go along with these tactics if a D was executing these actions? Hell no! Therefore, the billionaire "savior" was chosen to propagandize millions into believing these blatant erasures of our freedom is necessary to "save" us from these criminal elements.
As far as all this occurring over the previous four years. Get a grip. Its been happening from both administrations for over 30+ years of my life. Not a left/right issue. We are ruled by a gaslighting UNIPARTY
Totally missed the point! Wake up please. How you people cannot see past the left right paradigm is beyond me. The current, entirely run government by GOP is and has just funded both sides of this! Fund ICE AND all the programs that give these illegals our tax dollars. MTG has a good tweet today explaining. You literally believe this all just happened which proves that the propaganda your swallowing is working exactly as they want it to. Look beyond your tribe to find out whats really happening to us.
How do you know I missed your point? Just because I didn't discuss your point? I was making additional points. Don't tell people to wake up, it's patronizing.
Totally agree, thank you for your honesty in saying what is unpopular but true. Although far from "good" (face it, not a single president has ever been "good"), Kamala was a zillion times better than the billionaire conman even though the herd mentality (and the media that makes $$$$$ out of his deranged and disastrous "leadership") conditioned us to exaggerate her flaws and made her the "uncool" one to support while ignoring his exponentially greater flaws and making him the "cool" one to support. Hell, even Joe with dementia was better than the catastrophe we are faced with now.
Thank you Rav. I appreciate you taking the middle ground. So many are polarizing as you say into two camps both of which are mostly wrong.
I can't help but think about how this situation has been created to divide the country and require the federal government to declare martial law.
1) Decades of war with other countries that was unjustified. Making many angry people wanting revenge against the US.
2) Four years of Biden admin leaving the borders open. A setup for Trump to 'fix'.
3) The 'news' sources giving two false narratives as the only possible choices. ICE is deporting peaceful people seeking sanctuary (left) and Violent criminals here because of Biden that must be removed (right).
4) The response of the left is not legal avenues (court) but mob protests. This was practiced with "Defund the police" and "BLM" and Antifa.
5) People conflating issues: "All conservatives are fascists", "One cop kills someone and that means all cops are bad". "All illegal immigrants are bad or good (depending on side)".
This is as Aldous Huxley said: "To be able to destroy with good conscience, to be able to behave badly and call your bad behavior righteous indignation - this is the height of psychological luxury, the most delicious of moral treats."
It is a part of human nature (not a good one) to feed off the fight. To let out their frustration in violence in the name of compassion. It causes people to become blinded to their own violence.
If you bring a loaded weapon to a confrontation, especially with additional magazines, you are courting trouble. Anyone with even a passing knowledge of weapons safety knows this.
I’m disagreeing with you here, Bruce. It’s very common to see people open carrying at protests in the Midwest. There were many long guns being toted around at a Covid protest I attended back in May 2020. Nobody died, no guns were fired. They look idiotic flexing with their guns but it’s a thing here. We have both open and conceal carry in my state of WI and MN is the same. Are you sure the gun was loaded? I read he had two magazines. That’s not the same as the gun being loaded.
Respectfully, Biker Chick, nobody went to those protests with a weapon looking for a fight with law enforcement. That is either suicidal or being ready to get into a real gunfight for a reason. And interfering with the lawful enforcement of our immigration laws during the arrests of criminals is no reason.
Looking for a fight or not, bringing a weapon to ‘flex’ is just stupid. Mob mentality makes people do really stupid things. Best example I can think of happened in Austin during a George Floyd protest: A food delivery driver, Army private moonlighting, made a wrong turn towards the protest crowd. The crowd surrounded the car and one brilliant protester pointed his rifle at the driver. The driver responded by shooting the protester who died. The dead protesters friends defended him by saying the rifle wasn’t loaded. How was the driver supposed to know this?! Fearing for his life was a reasonable response from the driver. Why bring a weapon and not expect it to cause an issue? Just because you can carry, doesn’t mean you always should
I am just saying a lot of people do it to "flex." I agree it's pretty idiotic. If the protestors would just allow ICE to do their job unimpeded, no innocents would be dead today. It's maddening to me. Fight your battles at the ballot box. That's not to say I don't believe in the right to protest but some of these tactics are over the line.
The the gun man had was removed by an ICE agent one or two or three seconds before he was shot. Did the other agents struggling with the thrashing subject know the man had been disarmed? Why assume yes as you’ve done? Did the subject himself know he’d been disarmed? Again why assume yes as you’ve done? Those assumptions can’t be made. Not enough facts established yet. Also keep in mind this is occurring outdoors in sub-freezing temperatures. How coordination dexterity and efficiency would decrease in those conditions are also unknown.
With love and respect, this entire essay and your approach is exactly what ruins our nation. It would be like being all high and mighty and putting on your “nonpartisan” hat to spend months analyzing the forensic evidence of the reichstag fire or the ‘unsolved’ murder of the romanovs, or another 5 year long investigation of whether Trump is on putin’s payroll, just to be sure. At some point I hope you will understand where we are. Getting people like you to react like you just did is precisely the intent of the evildoers, you are falling for their op!
These are highly sophisticated, deeply sinister communist subversives. If you cared about this you would know this already and be aware of their incredibly sophisticated training and organizing and PR savvy tactics. Their whole goal is to trigger chaos and violence and death in order to scare off normies. Don’t let this crap work on you or it never ever ends!
I mean, this is straight out of 1960s training pamphlets or Alinsky guides, you can’t write about this all holier-than-this with such ignorance. The goal is to push and push until normies lose their nerve. They just did it it like 5 years ago during BLM too, stop falling for it.
This isn't about an incident. It's about the clash of two narratives which leads to a string of incidents.
One narrative is based on the belief that a brutal govt operation is targeting innocent people in the form of harassment, false arrests and intentional mistreatment.
The second narrative is based on the belief that the govt is enforcing the law, arresting known criminals and deporting those who are illegally in the country with the intent to defraud the US taxpayer.
It all depends on who you believe is right, who is just, who is truthful. Microscopic examination of a single incident avoids dealing with the basic underlying belief. In doing so, your attention is focused on the peons. You need to redirect your examination to those who are the architects of the narrative, what are their objectives, who benefits, who are they.
I have no problem with a reasonable analysis that doesn’t assume anything on either side. However, your analysis about the amount of rounds being excessive is making an assumption. When lethal force is employed the standard is to persist until you’re sure the threat has ended. Dropping one magazine and loading another one and continuing to fire might be ‘excessive’, but 10 rounds isn’t necessarily excessive depending on many factors. At least that’s what I was taught during my concealed carry class.
There are also numerous reasons for ‘one guy’ to require several officers/agents to restrain them…especially in these times where every single touch is analyzed and criticized ad nauseum by every Tom, Dick, & Harry. Homestly, at this point I don’t even want to watch the video(s) because no amount of analysis, discussion, critique, and whatever random internet people can come up with matters not one little bit.
The protesters in Minneapolis have zero respect for him, the words will fall on deaf ears. I think Jacob Frey and Tim Walz are the ones to deliver messages of calm. This is what’s so dumb….Trump is just going to double down. The protesters need to realize they are just encouraging rather than deterring Trump.
From a slow motion analysis of the video it appears that an ICE agents disarms Pettit and that that gun a Sig Saur, then discharges in the agent's hand (80 lawsuits involve Sig Suars discharging without pulling the trigger). If that is true, and another agent shouts gun, then it is reasonable to believe the rest of the agents reacted to the sound of a discherged weapon as a threat. Their assumption would be that ICE would not fire first at a man being restrained and the number of shots is a reaction to the event as obviously no one takes the time to confer on who should respond, they all do nearly simultaneously. They scenario seems reasonable to me but not proven.
I also wonder why the woman was pushed and pepper sprayed. I also question the rational of carrying a weapon when your going to confront armed federal agents. Petit would be alive if he had left his gun at home....irrefutable fact.
Obama deported millions of illegals with no protests and support of local law enforcement. With Trump everything is resistance which makes the underlying cause more TDS than support of liigals. Protests are being encouraged by Democratic leadership with predictable results. Wouldn't be a problem if Minnesota was cooperating in removing illegals as they did in previous administrations, which begs the question as to why.
Two possible reasons: protecting a potential illegal voting block living on welfare and/or the government complicity in the massive welfare fraud and benefiting from same. I'm open to any other root cause for supporting such an insane policy of protecting illegal criminal immigrants.
FWIW, I analyzed the video and it LOOKS like the truth might be even more tragic -- it looks like the officer who disarmed the suspect accidentally discharged the weapon as he was turning to leave.

What I find troubling is not allowing the MN authorities access to the crime scene.

💯 and I’m not even sure he was wildly resisting.

Truth. Talk to native Minnesotans. That would be an interesting interview...
Sorry -but if he had a gun he was a threat & the shooting is justified.
He had a legal permit and you can visibly carry in Minneapolis sir.
Many of us have legal carry permits but are not so stupid, reckless and needlessly confrontational as to bring them to the chaos of a confrontation with federal law enforcement.

We call it “open carry.” You can also legally “conceal carry.”
And that gave him some special right to interfere with immigration enforcement?
Where’d I say that?
Isn't the 2nd amendment the most cherished constitutional item in MAGA minds?
Because you know so many Republicans and know what we're thinking and believe.......
Er......maybe the Constitution?
If it's the Constitution how do the "Libby states" do it? https://www.congress.gov/118/meeting/house/115608/documents/HHRG-118-GO00-20230329-SD008.pdf

Supposedly we are a nation of laws. Those supporting their enforcement are clearly in the right.
