He revels in his bad take on COVID. He has no ability to retrospectively look at his response objectively. I’ve heard him say he thinks, in hindsight, that he got everything mostly right. He also suffers from severe TDS. So, at this point not much of his social commentary is worth listening to.

Meditation should open your mind to limitless truth. Sam has a closed mind about reality. I haven't seen anyone able to break through his biases. Sam is most proud when he's wrong.

I think he's been close-minded on Covid, free will, and foreign policy issues. But* he's been commendably strong on issues like BLM, wokeness, transgender hysteria, right wing and left wing lunacy etc.

Sam's book: ."Waking Up. A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion" tells you all you need to know about Sam Harris, the atheist.

That book is brilliant. It explains his spirituality without superstition philosophy that I support

I'm always baffled as to why Harris is given so much oxygen. He has mastered presentation but typically fails basic thinking as he trots out a never ending stream of logical fallacies.

You are talking about the guy who doesn't care if Hunter Biden has a basement full of murdered girls, as long at Trump got defeated. He absolutely thought an international cabal was justified in overthrowing America's election. Any means necessary to obtain his ends.

I know the Hunter laptop was suppressed, but ... is there really credible evidence he may have the bodies of murdered girls in his basement?

And, forgive me, I don't follow Sam regularly ... how did he think an international cabal was (justified in) overthrowing an American election?

Those were comments made by Sam Harris in a Triggernomitry podcast with Konstantin Kisin and Francis Foster. Check it out.

I appreciate this post. I have never found Sam Harris compelling (even pre-COVID), but I appreciate that you are able to articulate your own complex view of him.

I still find Sam Harris to be very compelling on topics like meditation, spirituality without dogma, and psychedelics despite disagreement on more political issues.

Dave Smith, Sam Harris. All the greats 🤣

I respect them both for different reasons!

LATE REPLY: I think you're confused. Sam isn't spirituality without dogma. He's spirituality without spirit. He's an atheist insofar as there being a prime mover - a Divine source for all life. He would have to deny all of Christ's words about "God the Father who art in Heaven" - what's spiritual about that? The only thing I ever agreed with him on is the destructive force of Islam.

Rav Arora's avatar

You don’t need to believe in God as the “Divine source for all life” to be spiritual. Sam’s meditation teachings do an excellent job of pointing us to the ineffable beauty of the present moment illuminated by our consciousness - which some mystics do actually call God or heaven on earth FYI.
